Waiheke Island, New Zealand

Updated: Mar 10, 2019

In August I flew to Auckland to meet my best friend for girl's weekend. I managed to grab a great accommodation deal at Waldorf Stadium Apartments through Agoda - very central and handy to Britomart and Queen St.

On Saturday morning we headed for the ferry for a wine tour on Waiheke Island - excite! Being the middle of winter it was bloody cold but sunny, the ferry ride out there was quick and our tour bus was waiting for us when we arrived.

We had booked a package that included our return ferries, the bus (with the most delightful tour guide) lunch, a tour and tastings at three vineyards and an olive grove.

Our first stop was Stonyridge Vineyard were we stop for a tasting and lunch. Beautiful setting and the food was lovely. Enjoyed trying all the different wines. Next up was Castia Miro, a cute little place set against a hill. Lovely wine and nibbles and plenty to see with the mosaic garden up the top.

But my absolute fave had to be Mudbrick. What a setting! By that stage the day had warmed up, the sun was out and the sky was blue. Such a romantic place, you can see why people get married there.

We sat outside with a wine and soaked it all in. Would love to go back one day for a meal.

Then it was back on the bus for our return ferry ride and to get ready for our night out.
